Scope: IEC National is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications whose responsibilities include the design and implementation of the association’s communications strategies and objectives. These strategies and objectives include developing an association wide communications/marketing plan implemented by a broad range of public relations activities. Said strategy will cultivate IEC’s presence with all media formats, engage our target audiences and boost brand awareness.
This person will be responsible for supervising the creation of all internal and external communications and public relations efforts. Direct marketing experience including digital and print
New media strategy experience including social media and website
General awareness building experience
Excellent writing skills for multiple mediums both long and short form
Good understanding of marketing strategies
Excellent verbal, presentation and organization skills
Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, HTML, content management systems and desktop publishing software
Team management skills and experience
Excellent project management experience with external vendors/consultants
Good analytic ability and be able to measure success
Ability to foster long term relationships with key professionals, association members, electrical industry leaders and media partners
Minimum five years of experience with proven track record in brand development, storytelling, and marketing strategy including the development and implementation for all media formats:
Print: ability to develop and coordinate project through to camera ready artwork
Social Media: ability to develop and coordinate Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and email marketing system post, campaigns, newsletter and announcements
Website: concept development and content management
Publishing: ability to develop and generate quality print advertisement for local and national news and trade magazines. Editor responsibilities for IEC Insight Magazine
Broadcasting: ability to develop and manage video and radio production
Project management abilities for all above media
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or public relations
Ability to work as a member of a team: compile and maintain complex and detailed records, plan organize and schedule priorities, travel, design and carry out strategic communications plans, coordinate media relations and media events, and write and edit complex materials into understandable text.
Have strong research ability.
Be resourceful, goal oriented and capable of meeting deadlines.
Construction industry experience is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position works under the direction of IEC’s executive leadership to achieve the association’s public relations goals as documented in the current association’s strategic plan. For all association’s marketing, advertising, communications and public relations efforts the successful candidate must:
Ensure brand consistency
Supervise the development, design, creation, implementation and distribution of all public relations efforts for all association’s products and services, including but not limited to:
Publications, including Insight Magazine
Internal and external communications
Design all public relations efforts to:
Boost brand awareness
Identify its target market(s)
Establish a timeline for development, creation, implementation and distribution
Establish a budget and work within set budget
Cultivate relationships with IEC leaders, chapter staff, members and industry partners to secure an excellent understanding and working knowledge of the merit shop electrical and systems contracting industry and the role merit shop contractors play within it.
Develop a strong understanding of:
IEC’s educational products and training programs including the value these items bring to the merit shop electrical and systems contractors and the electrical industry.
All of IEC’s services including the value each service brings to its members.
How IEC may be perceived as a thought leader in the electrical industry.
Foster long term relationships with key professionals, association members and electrical industry leaders.
Manage quality analytical tracking of all IEC’s combined marketing efforts including making result oriented reports to large and small size groups.
Propose and implement annual departmental budgets to ensure quality production and fiscal responsibility for the association’s advertising, public relations and marketing efforts
